Get Crabby!
Known as "The Home of the Blue Swimmer Crab", Ardrossan and nearby coastal areas are popular for the summer pastime
of crabbing. An hour before low tide is the best time to search through the white sandy areas near the weed line,
not forgetting to wear a pair of old shoes and socks to guard against nips! Crabs can also be easily caught using nets
from the jetty or boats. The modern boat ramp makes it easy to venture out to deeper waters in search of snapper,
mulloway, King George whiting, snook, squid and garfish.
Museum and Visitor information centre
The Ardrossan Historical Museum is located on Fifth Street in the former factory once owned
by Clarence Smith, manufacturer of the iconic "Stump Jump Plough". This ingenious invention
simplified farming in the late 1900's, revolutionising the clearing of mallee scrub. A room is
dedicated to the "Zanoni", a wheat clipper that capsized off Ardrossan in 1867. Also on display is the
jawbone of a whale, old style general store and the history of the ketch trade to Ardrossan.
The Museum is open 7 days, 10am to 4pm including public holidays (except Good Friday and Christmas Day).

Windara Reef
Windara Reef is the first shellfish restoration reef of its kind in South Australia
with the aim to assist in a healthier marine environment and improved fishing opportunities.
The site of four hectares was opened in August 2017. The reef was built using 60 custom made
concrete structures and 800 tonnes of limestone rock layered with juvenile native oysters.
South of Ardrossan, and within Rogues Point vacinity, the reef will eventually cover 80 hectares.
